The High Mountains of Britain and Ireland

The Munros and Tops and other 3000ft Peaks

SELECTED IN 2003 AS THE NUMBER ONE TITLE FOR TRAIL MAGAZINE'S "ULTIMATE WALKER'S BOOKSHELF"

Irvine Butterfield

First published in 1986 and known by Munroists as "The Bible", this is the most thorough compendium on all 3000ft-plus mountains in the British Isles. It is illustrated with clear kammkarte maps and over 300 photos - selected for their topographical value and thus aiding route-planning. A range of ascent routes are suggested, sometimes linking the target mountain with nearby tops and other peaks. Rather than describing the peaks within their mountain ranges, the itineraries are grouped around valley bases, so that the walker can plan expeditions in different directions from one location. The slim, map-sized Companion, for field use with the relevant OS map, contains the full text plus accommodation suggestions and stalking information.
