Classic Rock

Great British Rock-Climbs

Compiled by Ken Wilson

It was originally thought that this book, the natural sequel to Hard Rock, would only appeal to novices who would work their way through its climbs to acquire the experience for the harder levels of rock climbing. With the growth of climbing walls (and their failure to impart natural protection skills) these climbs here have become mainstream out-of-doors testpieces that are ideal for wall-trained climbers to perfect their protection and belaying skills before advancing onto the harder British traditional climbs. That said, these classic climbs, though comparatively easy, still offer considerable challenge and risk. They form a bedrock of our finest routes giving excellent days on the hill. Many are on big cliffs and all should be treated with respect. Many of them reflect key events in the history of the sport.
