Anne Sauvy's acclaimed collections are loosely based on alpinism (mainly in the French ranges) and Parisian academia, with metamorphic, gothic horror and philosophical plotlines as well. Her style gives hints of De Maupassant and Poe, but similarities to Somerset Maughan and Saki are also apparent. The always sharp critic Robin Campbell commented:
"Fine writing, no frills, always a denouement and often a twist... easily the best mountain fiction I have come across."
